Death to HD-DVD?

So Warner decides to go Blu-ray exclusive giving Blu-ray fanboys plenty to shout about to their rivals, the HD-DVD camp. Many have said that with this move, the format war for hidef movies is about to end. This piece of news was actually all over the Internet over the weekend but I am posting it now only after thinking about it and wondering if I should really be happy.

I own a PS3, so it should be an obvious choice for me to be happy that the format I own is winning. But then again, with no competition, who is to ensure that the BDA will continue to look after the consumers?

I am still in two minds as to what I should feel about this announcement but I certainly hope it does not spell the end of cheap Blu-rays on Amazon or the hope of having a dedicated player that is affordable. Monopoly is never good so I hope HD-DVD can continue to fight the good fight. Even if it means I have to lose out a few movies to the HD-DVD camp.

edit: In another update, popular porn producer Digital Playground also announced their move to the Bluray camp. Toshiba however, revealed their plans to market HD-DVD and declared that HD-DVD is the consumer's choice.
