After the success of Phoenix Wright on the NDSL platform, it seems PSP wanted its very own as well. And there is no weirder lawyer than superhero-turn-lawyer, Harvey Birdman.
I have waited for quite some time for the game to be available and I dusted off my PSP for its first UMD game after a very, very long time.
The game is funny. There is no doubt about it. The humour, the no-logic-approach, the cameos and the obvious parody of all things superhero makes for a good cartoon.
That's right, a good cartoon but not a good game. I can't even call this a game. It is more like 5 episodes of Harvey Birdman with interactive bits thrown in.
The power of the PSP means the game is smooth flowing, the animated sequences is way better than Phoenix Wright, and it really feels like watching Harvey Birdman on the small screen. Too bad the gameplay doesn't live up to its expectations.
The logic can be weird at times and the game is so easy, you won't even need your brain for this one. It is probably looking at a different crowd as compared to the highly challenging Phoenix Wright series.
So, with a short game, and pretty lousy mechanics, you are paying for 5 episodes of Harvey Birdman with the added interactive features. If you are a fan of the series, then it is probably worth having it in your collection.
I found the game funny, and I chuckled a few times, but I wished that they invested more time in making the gameplay up to par as well.
The Good
- Funny
- Smooth animation scenes - its like watching Harvey Birdman on the PSP
- Too short
- Too easy
- It is not even a game!
